Researchers' Night is a Europe-wide science event held this year on 29.9.2023. The Generation AI project participates in the event with an AI workshop "Artificial Intelligence in a Black Box" at the University of Oulu, where children, young people and parents can get to know the "Gen AI Teachable Machine" application developed in the project.

Workshop description:

The workshop introduces artificial intelligence through machine learning and a classifier. With researchers from the GenAI project, participants get to try the classifier app themselves. Come and experiment and learn! In the workshop, participants will teach artificial intelligence and see how it works with the data they teach it. The application developed in the project is based on research in which 800 children from Oulu and Joensuu with their teachers participate in co-creation together with researchers.

Brief description of the project's workshop activities

Artificial intelligence needs a lot of material, data, to function. For artificial intelligence to work, it must be taught with this data. We have developed a teachable machine in the project, with which you can get to know this.

The teachable machine developed in our project represents a subcategory of supervised machine learning in the broad spectrum of artificial intelligence. Machine learning is used in our everyday lives from social media services to cars and vacuum cleaners. Our machine is intended for use in basic education and can also be called a classifier. For example, in our vacuum cleaner example, it has been taught to recognize Lego bricks and socks. It should not vacuum them up.

Note!
To save time, we have prepared ready-made machine learning models that you can modify if you wish or add different data classes to.
