GenAI involved in Girls’ Day events!
GenAI involved in Girls’ Day events! 400 girls (and boys) visited the University of Oulu on 11 October as part of International Girls’ Day. The Generation AI project also participated in this day by running a workshop on “AI black box – teach the machine”. Did you know that Girls’ Day is a central mission of Soroptimists for Women all over the world. In Oulu, the organisation was organised by the local club of the organisation.
The workshop started with young people learning about how much data their mobile apps generate. It was a surprise to many that, in the context of fairly everyday use, it is generated in the order of a 9-page pdf document. Test it for yourself: https://datadonation.ide.tudelft.nl/dataslip
We then went through together how data is processed using AI, with a particular focus on the technologies used in social media applications. The Generation AI project and its objectives were also presented in general terms.
After that, it was time to get to know the AI application itself, the machine learning application developed in our project. First, we introduced the AI technologies behind the application, and then the students were able to create different machine learning applications themselves.
Judging by the general enthusiasm, the young people were very excited about the opportunity to be among the first schoolchildren in our country to be introduced to an AI literacy app!
